In a Tuscan environment on the Blue Ridge Parkway of Virginia. A Virginia TAR HEEL winery! The ambiance of Villa Appalaccia is that of an Italian Tuscan country house. They are situated above the Rock Castle Gorge National Forest on the Blue Ridge Parkway (mile post 170) at an altitude of 3500 ft.The vineyard was planted in 1989 and the winery was licensed in 1996. In 1999, they produced 3000 cases. Villa Appalaccia features award-winning wines derived from Sangiovese-Cabernet Franc blends as well as Pinot Grigio, Malvasia and Vidal Blanc. This year they will have our first wines from Primitivo. RED WINES:
Sangiovese is produced in the tradition of the famous Tuscan Chianti.
Toscanello is produced in the tradition of the famous "super-Tuscan" wines of the chianti region of Tuscany. We blend 25% Sangiovese with 75% Cabernet Franc.
Francesco, is produced form our exceptional Cabernet Franc grapes picked at the peak of their maturity. Francesco was recently picked as one of the four "world class "red wines in Virginia by the Washington Post.
WHITE WINES: Lirico is produced in the tradition of the famous white table wines of Orvieto and the Veneto.
Simpatico is produced in the classical Tuscan style as a dry, intensely fruity and aromatic table wine. The Malvasia Bianca grape has the memorable spicy character of the Moscato and Gewurtzraminer grapes.
Pinot Grigio is a real award winning wine for Villa Appalaccia.
